Asparagus Farm: Production Technology & Cultivation Techniques

Botanical description

Asparagus tree is 3 to 5 feet high and it grows in honor of the creeper. Its branches are thin. The leaves are like fine needles. Which is 1.0 to 2.5 meters long. On its branches, white-colored flowers bloom on 0.5 inch long straight or crooked-shaped clusters. Its seeds are black. Its roots are tuberous in long long clusters.

Geographical description

This plant is 1200 m in the Himalayas. Found naturally up to high altitude areas. This plant is found in the mixed forests of the year in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Medicinal use

The roots of Asparagus are sweet and juicy. It is cold, chemical, aphrodisiac, cloudy, gastrifying, confirmatory, igniting, agnipradipak, rheumatic disorder, swelling of the gums, aliphatic, beneficial to the eyes, sedative, milk enhancer, forceful and diarrhoea, vata, bile rakta and remover.

Active Ingredients of Asparagus

You can find Sataverin one and Sataverin 5 chemicals in its tuberous roots. Sataverin 1 is a glucoside of sarsopaginin.

Land and climate

For the cultivation of asparagus, sandy loam soil, which has a proper drainage system, is suitable. A hot and humid climate is best for this. Areas where the temperature ranges from 10 to 50 degrees Celsius and the average annual rainfall is 250 cm. Happens till then. It is good for farming.

Farm preparation

Before the cultivation of asparagus, plow the land two to three times. After that, plow the field again by adding 15 tonnes of dung manure per hectare.

Amplification

Asparagus is propagated by seeds. For nursery, sow the seeds by making a bed of 1×10 meters. The best time for sowing seeds is in the month of May. Germination starts after about 1 month. In the month of August, when the height of the plant is 8-10 cm. Then, plant the plants 60×60 cm. and should have a considerable distance with each other. Sometimes, you can prepare the seedlings again from underground roots. Then, in about 20 days these seedlings are ready for planting in the fields.

Irrigation

Asparagus crop does not require much irrigation. Provide irrigation every week in the initial days and once in a month after that.

Weeding hoeing

Weeding and hoeing are necessary for a good yield of asparagus. Remove weeds by weeding and hoeing about once a month.

Diseases and their prevention

Diseases and insects are not an issue for an asparagus farm. However, you should occasionally spray insecticides.

Harness and storage

Asparagus crop is ready in 12 to 18 months. But you should dig up the roots when the plant turns yellow. At the time of digging, the roots retain 90% moisture. Therefore, you should remove the skin by making an incision in the roots. After that, dry the roots in the sun, store them in sacks, and store them in safe places.
